Living and Building a home in the heart of France

The renderers arrived on Tuesday, set up their scaffolding and started with the corners. Their metal bars get clamped to one edge and render is trowelled up to it, giving a nice sharp corner. The machine for mixing the render is large, noisy, messy and uses an Archimedes screw to pump the mixed goo through a wide hose.
On Thursday they're back to start on the walls, first the studio. He squirts the render goo onto the block walls, then smoothes it with a giant squeegee. Then they leave it for a while to go off. The textured finish is then done by rubbing the surface with a scratchy board causing render dust to fall like snow and leaving a lovely texture.
