Last Friday another team arrived, more Turks! They're here to lay the screed and the floor tiles. They started mixing and laying screed 5cm thick in the two bedrooms and left instructions not to walk on it for a week, to allow it to set in this cold wet weather.
The shower tray will be fixed in this corner of the bathroom, level with the screed.
We thought the bathroom would be fully tiled, until we checked the spec this week to find the walls will only be tiled behind the shower. The floor is to be mid-blue with the lower part of the walls light blue, the upper walls in vanilla, with a fancy strip of little tiles ("listel") between the two. We've decided we would like the light blue tiles and listel continued all round the room. This will be the first, possibly the only, 'extra' that we've asked for. We nipped in over the weekend and painted the top half of the walls.
I'm not joking when I say it's wet.... we now have a moat.
Monday, and the four tilers are back early and in no time have laid a fairly dry mix of screed over the underfloor heating wires, tile cement straight on top (see pic right) then the first rows of floor tiles. No plastic spacers - just lined up by experienced eye. Impressive.
