Living and Building a home in the heart of France
21st November 2007
Wandering around Poitiers, we came across the Hôtel de Ville, a fine building dating from 1869. While taking a peek at the grand entrance hall, a uniformed chap came up to us with a leaflet about the building, and encouraged us to go up to the second floor to have a look around.
A peek at Poitiers
The 'Salle des Mariages' provides a grand setting for weddings before the magnificent stained glass window depicting Aliénor d’Aquitaine (Eleanor of Aquitaine) presenting the commune charter in 1199.
The sweeping staircase, the columns and ballustrades, painted ceilings, the grand formal meeting rooms, it all just oozes historical grandeur.
One of many huge paintings; Le Clain by Emile Bin.
