Bellac Artisan market
The next Saturday there was an artisan market in Bellac, the streets lined with a great assortment of crafts. In one marquee two ladies sat at treadle sewing machines, stitching strips of plaited straw to make hats. The chap then put the hat on his weird machine to steam-press it into shape. Note the flames from the circle of gas-pipe around the brim of the upper former.

Lots of other stalls too, selling handmade jewellery, fabric creations, decorations, knives and scarves. Also these very chunky, carved cutting boards (although who could afford 60 euros for one is a mystery to me).

We bought some Caribbean samosas, a kilo of onions and some very nice cheeses.
