Angoulême
Out on our travels again, this time to Angoulême in Poitou-Charente, a town as big as Limoges that for some reason we've never been to. Here, however, lives a luthier who had a workshop in his basement, building, fixing and fine-tuning guitars. Tony wanted a pick-up installed in his favourite acoustic guitar and decided to get a knowledgeable expert to do it for him. So off we went.
Having left the guitar for surgery, we went into Angoulême centre for a wander around, and lunch. The first thing we found was a brilliant food market. Not just raw veg, but prepared dishes sold in takeaway boxes, a fantastic Italian food stall, and an Indian takeaway van, plus vast displays of fresh fruits and vegetables. I just love French markets.

Around the town: a huge open space above the rather depressing shopping mall (the striplights were giving me a funny turn).
We found an oasis of calm in a crèperie down a side street, where we had a very nice lunch and a welcome sit-down.
